Greenwich Symphony Associate Conductor Tara Simoncic will lead the season’s second GSO Young People’s Concert on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

Sixth and seventh graders from the Greenwich schools will be given a glimpse into the drama, intrigue, and fun of the exciting world of opera when the GSO invites special guest singers to perform some of opera’s best loved arias and overtures. Learn the role that the orchestra plays in opera to bring out the funniest and most dramatic moments with the singers. Try to keep up with Figaro as he sings his most famous aria from The Barber of Seville. Enjoy soprano and baritone soloists performing Mozart’s delightful “Papageno/Papagena” duet from his Magic Flute opera. Hear how the orchestra uses the overture to set up the intrigue, suspense and humor for the opera that follows.

The Young People’s Concerts, designed to introduce students in Greenwich schools to the symphony orchestra and the music of the great masters are given free of charge, during the school day. Some seating is available for interested parents and members of the public. Performances will take place at 9:15 a.m., 11 a.m., and 12:45 p.m. in the Greenwich High School Performing Arts Center at 10 Hillside Rd. For more information, call the Symphony office at 203-869-2664.
