Superintendent Announces New Appointments

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sal Corda announced the appointment of Ms. Safiya Key as the Interim Assistant Principal for Glenville School, effective Jan. 17. Ms. Key has been with the Greenwich Public Schools since 2010 as a Speech-Language Pathologist and instructional coach. Since the start of this school year, she has also served as the Preschool Intake Team Leader.

Glenville School Principal Marc D’Amico said, “I am extremely pleased to announce Ms. Safiya Key’s arrival to Glenville School. Safiya thoroughly impressed the interview panel with her extensive background in special education services. Further, we were equally impressed with her vast pedagogical knowledge and how she transfers her learning to that of her colleagues through her instructional coaching role. As an accomplished Speech-Language Pathologist and instructional coach, Safiya brings to Glenville the proper credentials needed to fill this very important vacancy. I am looking forward to personally introducing her to the staff and greater Glenville community.”

As Interim Assistant Principal for Glenville School, Ms. Key is filling the vacancy due to the resignation of Janean Carley from the role as announced in December. The search for a new permanent Assistant Principal for Glenville Schools is already underway.

Dr. Corda also announced the appointment of Lori A. Mulligan as the 2017 Greenwich Public Schools Summer School Coordinator, effective immediately. Ms. Mulligan has been with the Greenwich Public Schools since 2000 as a mathematics teacher at Central Middle School and Greenwich High School. She has also served as the Cos Cob School site coordinator for the GPS Summer School program for the last several summers and co-coordinator for the secondary summer program.

Deputy Superintendent Ann Carabillo said, “Lori Mulligan brings a great deal of expertise, experience and excitement to the role of Summer School Coordinator. We are looking forward to working collaboratively to ensure we are offering summer programming that will support and enhance our students learning experiences.”

Bio Brief: Safiya Key

Ms. Key began working in the Norwalk Public Schools as a speech-language pathologist in 2005. She came to the Greenwich Public Schools in 2010, supporting the preschool program as a speech-language pathologist and as an instructional coach for the District and community. Ms. Key also maintains a private practice, providing speech and language therapy and related services to individuals and their families.

Ms. Key received a bachelor of science degree in communication and psychology from Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y. in 1999; a master of science degree in communication from Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven, in 2005, and completed the educational and administration certification program at the University of Bridgeport, Bridgeport, in 2016.

In 1994, Ms. Mulligan began teaching mathematics in Regional School District #15 at Pomperaug High School in Southbury. She came to the Greenwich Public Schools as a mathematics teacher at Central Middle School in 2000, and also served as the seventh grade team leader, before moving to Greenwich High School (GHS) in 2007. Ms. Mulligan has served in a number of leadership capacities, including as the GHS math department instructional coach (2011-2016), learning facilitator (2002-2006 and 2009-2016), and Program Associate (2016-present.) Additional supervisory roles include as Site Supervisor for Cos Cob Summer School After School program (2009), and then as Site Supervisor for the Summer School program at Cos Cob School (2013, 2014, 2016.)

Ms. Mulligan received her bachelor of science degree in English education from the University of Connecticut, Storrs, in 1991, a master of science degree in elementary and early childhood education from the University of Bridgeport, Bridgeport in 1993, a master of education in organizational leadership and administration from Teachers College, Columbia University, New York, N.Y. in 2005, and participated in the Sacred Heart University, Fairfield administration certification program to complete her 092 certification in 2009.
