Greenwich Library presents the world-class early music quartet Ayreheart on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 3:30 p.m. in the Cole Auditorium. The group will be performing a unique Renaissance concert designed to give a glimpse into the lute’s past and the expressiveness that prompted Renaissance writers to call the lute “The Prince of Instruments.”

Ayreheart was formed to feature the lute in a completely new context, mixing with vocals, electric bass, drums & hand percussion, guitar, violin, mandolin & komuz.

Performing as a quartet (vocals, two lutes, colascione and percussion), Ayreheart will play a program of Renaissance music from the British Isles. Music of John Dowland, William Byrd and John Johnson will be featured, as well as old ballad tunes from England, Scotland and Wales.

Grammy-nominated lutenist and Ayreheart founder Ronn McFarlane strives to bring the lute – the most popular instrument of the Renaissance – into today’s musical mainstream and make it accessible to a wider audience. Visit www.ayreheart.com.

The Peterson Concert Series is open to all at no charge. Doors open at 3 p.m., seating is limited. Registration, using the Library’s online calendar is encouraged but not required.
