You couldn’t have asked for a better way to start the season for the Brunswick swim team. Competing Saturday for the first time this season, the Bruins won all but one event en route to a 90-69 victory over Canterbury School.
In the victory, Brunswick set four team records, had 15 Bruins set qualifying marks for the New England championships and set four Canterbury pool records.
In the 50-yard freestyle, it was Marcus Hodgson who took home a team-best time and first place with a time of 21.92 seconds.
Brunswick’s next three records were done in the relays.
Competing in the 400-yard freestyle relay, the foursome of Hodgson, Christian Farricker, Cole Pierce and Keegan Drew took the gold with a time of 3:11.92. In addition to his top time in the 50-yard free, Hodgson led off the 400-yard relay with a Brunswick-best time of 46.98.
Another record was taken down in the 200-yard medley relay, as the team of Pierce, Thacher Scannell, Hodgson and Drew finished with a time of 1:40.42.
Scannell and Drew also took home top honors in some individual events as well. Competing in the 100-yard freestyle, Drew’s time of 48.50 was good enough for first place. Not to be outdone was Scannell, who touched the wall in the 100-yard breaststroke with a top time of 1:04.30.
Farricker, who struck gold with the team in the 400-yard freestyle relay, also grabbed first place in the longest event of the day, the 500-yard freestyle, posting a time of 4:48.26. Keeping the good times rolling was Drew in the 100-yard freestyle, as he posted a time of 48.50 that was good enough for first place.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Will Powers finished first overall, posting a time of 1:50.67. Teammate Alex Morgan also took home first place during the 100-yard backstroke, posting a time of 58.20.
Rounding out the winners for Brunswick was the 200-yard freestyle relay, as the team of Jake Charney, Scannell, James Simone and Powers touched the wall first with a time of 1:34.99.
