On Sunday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m., Curiosity Concerts – a series of free family concerts presented by professional musicians at different venues in Greenwich – will present Duo Scorpio.

Duo Scorpio is a New York City based harp duo on a mission to expand the duo harp repertoire by commissioning new works and exploring existing repertoire. In 2010, harpists Kathryn Andrews and Kristi Shade began searching for music for their newly formed ensemble and realized this particular part of the harp repertoire had yet to be fully explored in a contemporary setting. Duo Scorpio was awarded the American Harp Society Grant in 2011 and 2013, as well as a Classical Commissioning Grant in 2013 from Chamber Music America. Coincidentally, Katie and Kristi were both born on Nov. 5, 1982, making them both Scorpios. They have embraced their Zodiac alignment by using their talent and passion to team up and form this unique duo.

Come hear the harp like you have never heard it before. Harpists Kathryn Andrews and Kristi Shade present an exciting, mesmerizing performance of contemporary pieces for two harps. Duo Scorpio’s music explores the capabilities of the harp and showcases the instrument in an approachable, compelling way.

Concerts are 50 minutes long and are designed to inspire parents as well as their children of any age (but children should be able to enjoy an hour of music).

The concert will take place at the Greenwich Arts Council, 299 Greenwich Ave. It is free, but reservations are required at CuriosityConcerts.org. There are wait lists and the tickets have real value. Please, only reserve if you are certain to attend. ‘No shows’ will not be allowed to reserve for future concerts.
