Chamber Players perform with Timothy Cobb

Timothy Cobb, Principal Bass of the New York Philharmonic, will join the Chamber Players of the Greenwich Symphony as guest artist for their Nov. 13 and 14 concerts. He will play in all of the three programmed works; Carl Nielsen’s Serenata in Vano for Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Cello and Bass, Antonin Dvořak’s Bass Quintet in G major, Op.77 and Franz Schubert’s Octet in F major, Opus 166.

Before joining the New York Philharmonic in 2014, Mr. Cobb was Principal Bass with the Metropolitan Opera, and also with the Mostly Mozart Festival. He has often toured with the Music from Marlboro Series. Mr. Cobb serves as Principal Bass for Valery Gergiev’s World Orchestra for Peace, a group of international musicians who, without fee, perform biannually to promote international harmony. As a member of this group, Mr. Cobb is designated a UNESCO Artist for Peace. He is on the faculties of the Julliard School, The Manhattan School of Music, Purchase College and Rutgers University.

Krystof Witek, Chamber Players violinist and Co-Artistic Director of the ensemble, speaks enthusiastically about these upcoming concerts, “For me personally the highlight of this program, in addition to the glorious music, is the opportunity to work with one of the most prominent bassists of our generation, Tim Cobb. To appear together with him is a real treat. We are all looking forward to it.”

Concerts are Sunday, Nov. 13 at 4 p.m. at the Round Hill Community Church, 395 Round Hill Rd. with a repeat performance on Monday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bruce Museum. There is a wine and cheese reception at each concert.
