Trailing 2-0 in a neutral site game against Pomfret, the Brunswick soccer team, led by Nick Boardman’s two goals and an assist, rallied for a 3-2 victory against the Griffins at a game hosted by Choate on Wednesday.

Pomfret scored the lone goal in the first half, finishing a corner kick at the seventh minute for a 1-0 lead. However, Brunswick (5-6-1) had a couple of strong scoring chances to net the equalizer before the half, but could not capitalize.

After intermission, the Griffins made it a 2-0 game at the 64th minute off another corner kick, scoring in front of the Brunswick goal.

The Bruins began their late-game comeback at the 68th minute with a goal by Will Maynard. On the tally, Nick Boardman fed the ball through the Pomfret defense, as Alex Buckanavage feigned a kick on goal and the ball rolled to Maynard for the finish.

Following the Maynard goal, Dante Polvara set-up Boardman on a great long ball from midfield at the 78th minute, tying the game at two apiece.

Later, Pomfret missed on its chances to regain the lead, pinging the crossbar on one shot and followed with a near miss over the post on another attempt.

The Bruins took the lead with two minutes left in regulation on a blast from Boardman. Following a string of passes from Polvara and Maynard, Boardman had space just outside the 18 for the game-winning goal, tucking the shot through the Pomfret keeper’s lower right side.

Brunswick goalies Harry Barringer and Santiago Riera split halves during the game. Barringer made three saves in the opening stanza, while Santiago finished the game with four stops, including a great deflection as the Bruins mounted the comeback.

The Bruins stay on the road for their next contest, traveling to Hopkins for a noon contest on Saturday, October 29.
