On Oct. 9, the Junior League of Greenwich’s Done in a Day Committee held a highly successful food drive at the Acme Store locations in Greenwich and Riverside to benefit Neighbor-to-Neighbor. The drive, coordinated by Jennifer Kimura, Committee Co-Chair Brynn John and Sustainer Betsy Parker, stationed a team of leaguers outside of each location with a bright red sandwich board listing the food items most requested by Neighbor- to-Neighbor. The generous and enthusiastic response of the people of Greenwich was heartwarming on the raw and rainy Sunday morning. Sue Moretti Rogers explains “The Junior League of Greenwich’s Done In A Day Committee is a hands-on effort in which our members coordinate and participate in events in conjunction with various community partners. This year, our dedicated volunteers will undertake another 8 similar projects such as this successful food drive which will provide support and targeted impacts for our fellow Greenwich residents in need of assistance.”

At the Greenwich location, shoppers helped fill more than one grocery cart per hour with cans of tuna, jars of peanut butter, boxes of pasta, and many other staples needed by our local food pantry. “The response was overwhelming. Although every little bit helps and we are extremely grateful for every single can and jar donated, we were humbled by the number of people who bought multiple bags full of food and placed them into our carts,” said Brynn John, who managed the Greenwich location accompanied by Lisa Seglem, Past League President, Susan Wohlforth, and Committee Co-Chair Karen Armstrong. “We also raised more than $250 in cash at our location alone,” she added. From the Riverside location, project leader Jennifer Kimura reported a similar outpouring of support from the community and other members of the Junior League. Sustainer Betsy Parker and Committee member Leigh Ann Rowinsky also assisted at the Riverside location.
