Breast Cancer Alliance (BCA) is once again partnering with more than 70 businesses to present GO FOR PINK, a special day of shopping and events dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the Town of Greenwich. Scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 6, GO FOR PINK brings the community together to raise awareness and critical funds toward eradicating breast cancer and to further support BCA’s mission: the funding of innovative research, breast surgery fellowships, education, and support for underserved women. A majority of participating merchants will be donating 10% of their day’s sales to BCA and some will be extending their donation throughout October with both in-store and online sales.

Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei, will kick-off GO FOR PINK at the Breast Cancer Alliance flag raising ceremony held at Greenwich Town Hall at 9 a.m.

Breast Cancer Alliance President Sharon Phillips said, “While great strides have been made in breast cancer research, much remains to be accomplished. Proceeds from GO FOR PINK will further Breast Cancer Alliance’s mission to improve survival rates and quality of life for those impacted by breast cancer through better preventions, early detection, treatment and cure. We are so grateful to the merchants and the entire community of Greenwich for their involvement and tremendous support.”

Educational and inspiring talks will be offered to the community during the day. Richards will host a breakfast at 9:30 a.m. with Greenwich Hospital Breast Center’s Dr. Barbara Ward and Radiologist Dr. Linda LaTrenta.

Dr. Barbara Ward of Greenwich Hospital said of her role in the day, “It is my small way of giving back to the BCA for their incredible sustained work to find a cure for breast cancer and to help those afflicted with the disease along the way. I have a unique opportunity to work along side this great organization, which although founded in Greenwich, has a far-reaching influence. The dedication of the Breast Cancer Alliance, particularly witnessing its growth and rebirth over many years is genuine, inspiring and impressive!”

Geralyn Lucas, author and breast cancer survivor will have a talk and book signing for Then Came Life at a cocktail party at Terra Ristorante at 5 p.m. Immediately following, the restaurant will celebrate 25 years in business by offering a special four-course dinner with 100% of net proceeds donated to BCA-Reservations are required.

“It is a great day to spend with friends and family to shop and support our local merchants partnering with BCA and rallying together to improve breast cancer survivor rates, prevention and quality of life while working towards the goal of a cure.” said Loren Taufield, Chair, GO FOR PINK.

Participating retailers will display GO FOR PINK signs in their windows, many providing shopping discounts and refreshments throughout the day. In addition, Richards will be open until 8 p.m. offering a special men’s shopping evening.

New this year, several merchants are extending their support of BCA throughout the month of October with online shopping at bcagoforpink.org (with code: BCA 2016) including Betteridge (Betteridge.com) and Richards (mitchellstores.com).

Marcia O’Kane, President & CEO of Greenwich Chamber of Commerce, said, “Once again, we are very excited to support GO FOR PINK and we encourage all merchants to participate and help mark the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This cause touches all of us and demonstrates the power of the Town of Greenwich to come together and raise funds for breast cancer.”

Merchant registration and links to RSVP for education events are available online at BCAGOFORPINK.org and the complete list will be continuously updated on the event’s website.
