Greenwich Academy Field Hockey Beats Berkshire 5-2

The Greenwich Academy field hockey team kept the good times rolling earlier today against Berkshire School, beating them 5-2.

After Katie Hargrave got Berkshire on the board first with a goal at the 24:37 mark, the Gators came back and scored twice to take the 2-1 lead into the second half.

In the first half, it was Sofi Viola who scored just under two minutes after Berkshire tallied its goal. Off a corner, Manveer Sandhu got the pass from Karina Schulze and buried the ball in the back of the cage for the 2-1 advantage with 19:54 left in the half.

After the break, GA’s Sandhu struck again, as she took the ball from Lucy Burke and Schulze and made the score 3-1 with only 55 seconds gone by in the half.

This time it was Viola’s turn  to find the back of the net, as she scored with 8:51 to play. Teammates Grace Schulze and Whitney Balanoff were credited with the assists.

With 3:47 left, Greenwich Academy finished its scoring when Karina Schulze passed to Erika Kraus to make the score 5-1.

Berkshire didn’t let up and put a goal with 1:12 to play, as Layla Tattersfield scored on a pass from Maddie Beitler.

In goal for GA, Belli Santucci had one save, and Maggie Reville played the second half and had zero saves. Berkshire’s goalie had an solid game, finishing with 18 saves.

The Gators will be back in action Monday when they travel up to New Canaan and battle St. Luke’s School in an FAA tilt.
