The 2nd Health and Wellness Expo for Older Adults (formerly the Senior Health Fair) is planned for Thursday, Oct. 6. It will take place at the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center, 90 Harding Rd, Old Greenwich, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is organized by the Greenwich Commission on Aging, the Greenwich Department of Health and Greenwich Hospital.

Influenza and Adult Vaccination Clinic provided by the Greenwich Department of Health and Blood Pressure and Cholesterol Screenings compliments of Greenwich Hospital will be provided. Additionally, new interactive programming by the Commission on Aging and Senior Center will be held in the main gymnasium highlighting “Breathe n Flex,” “Super Noggin Brain Fitness” and “Getting Ready for Medicare D.” Award-winning comedian and Greenwich resident, Jane Condon will give a standing room only performance at 11:30 a.m. entitled, “Laughing for the Health of It,” which is certain to lift and energize all attendees. Early morning coffee and snack will be provided. A hot lunch for the first 250 participants will be served after Jane Condon’s performance. Attendees will have an opportunity to spin a prize wheel for a chance to win a door prize.

Participants 65 years of age or older must bring their Medicare Part B/Medicare Advantage ID Card or a fee of $35 will be charged for influenza immunizations (Seasonal and Fluzone High Dose). The charge for pneumonia immunization (Pneumovax 23) is $65 and (Previnar 13) is $180. Medicare Advantage Plans do not cover pneumonia immunizations received at public clinics. Shingles vaccine will be available, but quantities are limited. The charge for shingles vaccine (for persons 60 years and older) is $185 (cash/check only, credit cards will not be accepted – no insurance billing – receipts available).

As in previous years, the Expo will provide opportunities for older adults to enhance and maintain their health, view resources from our sponsors and engage in invigorating programs. All adults 55 and older are encouraged to attend the event, which opens at 9 a.m., with a keynote lecture at 11:15 a.m. and lunch at 12:15 p.m.
