YWCA Honors Exemplary Women at Annual Spirit Awards

YWCA 2016 Spirit of Greenwich Awards takes place Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Greenwich Country Club from 5 to 7 p.m. Established in 1993, this award honors women who exemplify volunteerism and philanthropy in our community. Since its inception, more than 150 local women have been honored for their long-term vision, dedication and commitment to enriching the lives of others in our community. The 2016 Spirit Co-Chairs are Nisha Hurst, Lauren Walsh, YWCA Leadership Council Member, Joy Lautenbach and YWCA Board Member, Jane Batkin.

2016 Spirit of Greenwich honorees are Robin Bennett-Kanarek, Nancy Better, Michelle Binnie, Eunice Burnett, Susan Evans, Tracy Holton, Mary Jacobson, Mary Jeffery, Dee Mayberry, Anne C. Noonan, Suzanne Prunier, and Judith Wertheimer. Many local organizations have benefitted from their enthusiastic and transformative efforts, including Arch Street, The Greenwich Teen Center, Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich, Breast Cancer Alliance, Bruce Museum, Den for Grieving Kids, Greenwich Country Day School, Green Fingers Garden Club, Greenwich Historical Society, Greenwich Library, Junior League of Greenwich, YWCA Greenwich, and many others.

“YWCA Greenwich is honored to recognize all of these outstanding women. Empowering women and girls and strengthening our communities is our core mission. These women are leading by example,” said Mita Spilo, interim YWCA President and CEO, “and we thank them for all they have done and continue to do to strengthen our community.”
