The Town of Greenwich announced the appointment of the 2016-17 First Selectman’s Youth Commission. The Commission welcomes Alex Schnur as its new Chair after a unanimous vote by the group’s graduating seniors. In addition to the newly appointed Chair, there is an Executive Committee and three delegates from each high school in Greenwich. Students serving on the First Selectman’s Youth Commission are Vice Chair, William Chen, Secretary, Graham Plewniak, Treasurer, Scott Gibbons, Outreach Chairs, Raena Greenbaum and Mia Nixon, Chair Emeritus, James Plewniack, Greenwich High School Delegates, Willa Doss, Catherine Veronis and Jeremy Fertig, Greenwich Academy Delegates, Samantha Sarelli, Whitney Elminger and Molly Kalb, Convent of the Sacred Heart Delegates Grace Thompson, Tatiana Lieberman and Courtney Smith, and Greenwich Country Day School liaison, Isabel Kalb.

The First Selectman’s Youth Commission of Greenwich provides an opportunity for high school age young people of the Town to express their concerns and commitment to the community for the purpose of improving the quality of life for all youth. The Commission, inspired by the First Selectman, is comprised of a varied group of young people who represent different schools, different geographic parts of Town, different interests and backgrounds and they work directly with Town leaders.  The members of the Commission serve as ambassadors from their schools providing a voice of the youth to local leaders. Commission members have the opportunity to be part of solutions for youth concerns in Greenwich. Some of The First Selectman’s Youth Commission’s previous accomplishments include helping to save the Safe Rides Program for the town of Greenwich.
