Jewish Family Services of Greenwich (JFS) announced its upcoming “Supermarketing for Seniors Celebrates Grandparents Day” event, to be held Sunday, Sept. 25. In partnership with neighborhood supermarkets, including Acme, Kings, Stop & Shop, Balducci’s, Garelick and Herbs, Upper Crust Bagel Company, as well as with The Senior Center of Greenwich, JFS representatives and volunteers will be stationed across the community to raise awareness and funding for the Supermarketing for Seniors program, a nondenominational free grocery shopping and case management service designed to meet the physical, emotional and social needs of housebound Greenwich citizen 60 years of age and older.
Supermarketing for Seniors has served the elderly neighbors of Greenwich since 1986, and currently the program provides shopping and support services to 160 seniors each year. Although there are no income requirements to participate, 80% of the seniors that benefit from the program are considered low income by Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) guidelines, and many do not have other support systems in their lives to visit and monitor them on a regular basis.
On Sept. 25, the community is invited to visit Supermarketing for Seniors booths anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. At each booth, community members can show their support for the program. A donation of $20 will support a week’s worth of shopping for a senior.

Old Greenwich
- Kings, 26 Arcadia Rd.
- Upper Crust Bagel Company, 197 Sound Beach Ave.
