In the season-opener for both Brunswick and Taft, the Rhinos jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, and held on to win 2-1 over the Bruins on Caputo Field on Saturday.

After tallies by Taft at the five and 10 minute marks gave the visitors a 2-0 advantage, the game balanced out for both teams.

Brunswick had a great opportunity to slice the deficit in half with about three minutes to go before intermission. The Bruin offense got the ball to the Taft doorstep, but after faking the Rhino goalie to the ground, the shot on goal was deflected away by a Taft defender.

In the second half, Alex Buckanavage had three strong scoring chances to score, but was denied by excellent defense in front of the Taft goal.

Dante Polvara gave the Bruins a lift at the 83rd minute of play, netting a 20-yard free kick under the crossbar, knifing the Taft lead to 2-1. However, the Bruins could not muster the equalizer down the stretch, as the game ended in favor of Taft, 2-1.

Making his first career start for Brunswick, goalie Harry Barringer made a variety of eye-popping stops in front of the net, as the sophomore finished with nine saves.

Brunswick (0-1) next travels to Loomis Chaffee for a contest on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 4:30 p.m.
