Greenwich High Girls Swim Team Blasts Staples 109-77

The Greenwich High School girls swimming and diving team picked up a solid victory by besting Staples High School 109-77 Friday afternoon.

Big Red took home a plethora of top honors during the meet. In fact the Cardinals took the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle and diving.

The duo of Sophia Jahan and Kelly Montesi took home two individual gold medals each.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Jahan touched the wall first with a time of 2:12.85. Her time of 1:01.46 in the 100-yard freestyle was also the quickest on the day.

Not to be outdone was Montesi. Competing in the 200-yard individual medley, Montesi gained top honors with a time of 2:24.58. She also grabbed first place in the 100-yard butterfly, posting a top time of 1:04.48.

In the diving portion, Casey Kirsch took home the top point total, with Maddie Muldoon taking the silver and Emily Murphy ending the day third.

Murphy also finished with the silver in the 200-yard freestyle event, posting a time of 2:13.94. Teammate Lilly Clisham grabbed third in the event, touching the wall with a time of 2:15.01. Clisham also was bronze in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:10.45.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the foursome of Jahan, Merrill, Taylor Schinto and Montesi finished first overall, posting a time of 1:53.71. Not to be outdone was the team of Kortney Knudsen, Montesi and Ainsleigh Winget, as the finished first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:14.31.

Other standout performances against the Wreckers were from Julia Merrill, as she grabbed a time of 27.40 in the 50-yard freestyle. She also finished the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.96.
