This week, Aug. 8 to 12 from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., St. Paul Lutheran Church in Byram is holding its annual Vacation Bible School with 40 campers and over 30 volunteers. Throughout the week, children from pre-school through sixth grade will participate in arts and crafts, Bible verse memory challenges, storytelling and skits, and recreational games all centered around the “Barnyard Roundup” theme.

On Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Geoff Lazlo, Managing Partner and Executive Chef of Mill Street Bar and Table will give a lesson on organic gardening to the campers. Beginning this past spring, Lazlo has grown a vegetable garden on St. Paul’s property.

On Wednesday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Animal Embassy will visit the camp and bring a collection of animals typically found in farm setting for the children to touch and learn about.

As part of the church’s mission to support and encourage service learning, the church is collecting donations from the campers to support the Make a Wish foundation. Attending St. Paul’s VBS for the second year, Glenville School rising first grader Sam Buck, has been a recipient of a “wish experience.” Because he and his siblings enjoyed his VBS experience so much last year, Sam’s family scheduled their summer vacation to make sure he wouldn’t miss out on this year’s camp.

St. Paul Lutheran Church is located at 286 Delavan Avenue.

For details, you can contact the church’s superintendent, Jack Dobrucky at 203-253-2327 or Pastor Ben Loos at 203-814-8278
