UPDATED: Friday, July 22 at 12 p.m.: The Town of Greenwich and the surrounding area is expecting its warmest weather of the year. And warm is an understatement.

Today the temperature is slated to hit 92 degrees, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). In addition, an air quality alert is in effect starting at 11 a.m. and lasting until Friday night at 11 p.m.

According to the NOAA, an air quality alert means that ozone within the region may approach or exceed the health standard. The combination of hot temperatures and a Southwest wind are conducive for high levels of ozone to form across most of Connecticut.

In addition, residents are urged to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially sensitive groups such as the elderly and persons with pre-existing respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease.

And don’t expect things to get better any time soon.  Temperatures in Greenwich are slated to be above the 90-degree mark during the day until at least Tuesday, according to the NWS.

Saturday is supposed to get to 95 degrees, while both Sunday and Monday will be hot 91 degrees. With the increase in humidity, the temperature could feel like it’s 100 degrees or warmer.

The Town of Greenwich Department of Health issued a press release on Friday, saying that all residents, especially persons who are young, elderly, have medical or mental health conditions, use medications that impede body temperature regulation, those who do not have air conditioning, those whose work requires outdoor activities and people who are socially isolated are encouraged to pay special attention to the weather.
