Spencer Sodokoff is an energetic new face in Greenwich real estate. Recently graduated from Skidmore College, he joined Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices New England Properties almost a year ago.

Developing a client base and honing your skills is not an easy task for any agent. New agents typically take five years to see significant results. Spencer attributes his early success with growing up in real estate. A second-generation Greenwich real estate salesperson, he watched his mother, Julianne C. Ward, develop her business for the last 28 years. Julianne was recently named the number one agent at Berkshire Hathaway in Connecticut and the tristate area, and was ranked as number seven in the entire Berkshire Hathaway Company of approximately 45,000 agents in the U.S. and around the world.

Living under the wing of one of the most successful agents in Greenwich gave Spencer a wealth of knowledge about the business. “It made the transition to becoming an agent a lot easier, knowing that I am learning from the best. I get to see how her mind works while conducting business,” said Spencer.

Spencer knows that in order to be successful you have to be flexible and be able to move on a dime, work around the clock, and be intuitive about clients’ needs. “It means being available to answer a client’s needs 24/7 and also being able to predict what they are looking for before they even know what they are looking for,” Spencer said.

“Brokers work around the clock. Our phone can ring anytime, any day. We are always researching properties, showing homes, keeping clients informed of market changes, keeping on top of the ever-changing Greenwich real estate market, and speaking to prospective buyers and sellers. There is no down time in real estate.”

When engaging in the hustle and bustle that is needed to be successful in real estate, Spencer sees his youth as an asset and understands the gravity of being there for his clients.

“I have a lot of energy and time,” Spencer said. “I fully grasp that this is a full time job and cannot be done as you please.  You have to make sure this is your main focus.”

Spencer credits his years of involvement in sports for giving him the discipline and focus it takes to commit to his new career. Having grown up in Greenwich, he played ice hockey as a goalie at the Greenwich Skating Club and played college hockey for Skidmore College. He currently plays on the Vartuli Electric softball team.

In addition to his involvement in sports, Spencer has joined Berkshire Hathaway’s efforts to support The Sunshine Kids, an organization that works to enrich the quality of life for children with cancer by providing them with fun, exciting, and positive group activities as well as emotional support.

“We throw fundraising events and collect donations throughout the year. Every time you hear one of the kids speak at our yearly meeting, it really touches you and makes you want to continue.”

Spencer’s advice to any new agent just starting out—whether just out of college or as a career change—is to “avoid getting discouraged. When you are new in the business you have to have goals and work hard to achieve them. Deals will fall through, and you will have to fight through the adversity. It is not an easy or straightforward business. If you fail or the road gets rough, you try harder.”
