Vanessa Kuduk, Loan Officer at Members Credit Union, Cos Cob, organizes an annual Zumba event that raises funds for credit unions to provide financial reality fairs for local high school students.  This year the Zumba master class was scheduled for May 7, and when the devastating earthquake hit Ecuador just days before, Vanessa asked to repurpose the fund-raiser for earthquake victims.

With the support of Members Credit Union, the East Greenwich Civic Center who provided the space at no cost, the Credit Union League of CT who helped to promote the event, and many of her coworkers who volunteered their Saturday afternoon, she made it happen. Vanessa was able to find 22 Zumba instructors who were happy to work with her to choreograph a two-hour Zumba event, which was kicked off with a traditional Ecuadorian folk dance in costume.

About 100 people attended. A number were Ecuadorian and gave thanks for the support of their family members. All had an energizing afternoon getting fit while helping others.

The event and candy sales at Members Credit Union raised $1,540. Every dollar raised will be donated to the World Council of Credit Unions, which will distribute the funds directly to credit union staff and members in Ecuador that suffered loss in the earthquake.
