Churches to hold ‘Undies Project’ for Neighbor to Neighbor

The Undies Project at Neighbor to Neighbor has teamed up with local area churches during the month of May to collect new, unused underwear for those in need.

Undie Sundays at First Congregational Church, St. Michael the Archangel Church, St. Mary Parish and First United Methodist have already netted 247 packs of men’s, women’s and children’s underwear thanks to the generosity of their congregations. The new packs of underwear are already being distributed to clients through Neighbor to Neighbor.

Additional participants include St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church, Christ Church Greenwich and the Albertson Memorial Church. A special thanks is due to Rev. Kate Heichler, Pastor of Church of Christ the Healer in Stamford and Executive Director of Interfaith Council of Southwestern Connecticut for sharing her vision for Undies Sundays.

Underwear is one of the most under-donated, and most needed, item of clothing. No one should be deprived of the simple, daily necessity of clean underwear that many of us take for granted. Hygiene and physical comfort are only a part of this basic human need. New, clean underwear also provides dignity and self esteem. The Undies Project at Neighbor at Neighbor was started by volunteers Laura Delaflor and Lucy Langley in 2015 to fulfill this need.

Neighbor to Neighbor is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that improves the lives of low income residents by providing them with food, clothing and basic living essentials in an atmosphere of kindness and respect. Donations may be dropped off at 248 East Putnam Avenue, Greenwich Monday to Friday 8:30am-2:00pm, Thursday afternoon 3:30pm-5:30 pm and Saturday 8:30am-12:30pm.
