On May 23, John Blankley accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination to represent Connecticut’s 36th State Senate District, which represents Greenwich and parts of Stamford and New Canaan.

Blankley, who worked as a senior executive at the corporate level before co-founding a small and successful tech company, highlighted his background in his acceptance speech on Monday. “Connecticut needs bold new solutions right now,” Bankley said in his speech at Greenwich Town Hall. “From large initiatives to small business promotion, I will bring my corporate and entrepreneurial experience to help get our state back on track.”

Former Greenwich Selectman, Lin Lavery, nominated Blankley on Monday. “John will not just look at the details of the budget, which we know he can do adeptly. He will bring big picture thinking,” Lavery. “He will not let Hartford lose sight of what is important to the people of Greenwich and Stamford and New Canaan.”

“I am truly honored to receive this nomination tonight,” Blankley said. “I look forward to implementing creative solutions aimed at getting our state’s fiscal house back in order. Solutions that address our significant budget issues without gutting critical protections for those most in need or compromising the integrity our precious natural resources.”

Greenwich Selectman, Drew Marzullo, also expressed admiration for Blankley Monday night. “John has been a tirelessly committed public servant, first through his work on the RTM and now on the BET,” Marzullo said. “I have no doubt he will bring the same level of dedication and expertise to Hartford.”

Blankley and his wife Vera have lived in Greenwich since 1983, and have three children and four grandchildren.
