Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei has announced that various veterans representatives are continuing to meet and are extending an invitation to all veterans organizations to participate in the formation of The Greenwich Veterans Council.

The Council expects to become a clearinghouse for information and programs available to veterans including employment, health and counseling services and support. The group also plans to become a platform for communicating various patriotic activities and other events in Greenwich that reflect the Town’s appreciation for each Veteran’s service and sacrifices that they and their families have made to our country.

Mr. Tesei said, “The Town of Greenwich stands ready to provide assistance and support to the men and women in Town in appreciation for their dedication and service to our Country. Recognition of their collective efforts to defend our Nation shouldn’t be limited to one or two holidays but rather every day, throughout the year.”

Here are some of the events planned for Memorial Day Weekend:

  • American Legion Post 29 and other veterans and service organizations will place American flags on the graves of veterans at cemeteries around town.
  • Cos Cob VFW Post 8 Memorial Day service at the intersection of Strickland and River roads in Cos Cob at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 28.
  • Byram Veterans Association Annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 29.
  • Glenville Volunteer Fire Department Annual Memorial Day Parade and Service (starts on Glenville Street at Walker Court, to the Veterans Memorial next to the Fire House) at 5 p.m., Sunday, May 29.
  • Memorial Day Dock Service at the Indian Harbor Yacht Club at 8 a.m., Monday, May 30.
