The League of Women Voters of Greenwich announces that its highest honor, the Mary Award, will be presented to Cyndy Anderson in recognition of her many years of service to the Greenwich League and to the community. Ms. Anderson will receive the award on Wednesday, June 1, during the League of Women Voters Annual Dinner at the Riverside Yacht Club. The evening will begin with a reception at 6:30, followed by a dinner at 7:30 p.m.

Cyndy was President of the League for three years and continued in her leadership position as a member of the Steering Committee for another three years. Under her leadership, the League grew in membership to become the fifth largest in the United States. Her spirit, energy and commitment helped propel the League to become an even more active and vital force in the community. She has overseen all aspects of the organization from developing voter education programs to continuing League sponsorship of candidates’ debates for public office to partnering with others in encouraging good governance in the Town of Greenwich. Under her leadership, the League developed and completed a study on the functions of the Representative Town Meeting. Recommendations from this study will be part of the League’s advocacy and educational efforts for the coming years.

Perhaps of most importance to the League has been Cyndy’s unique ability to introduce it to a new generation of people and, in turn, to help them understand and participate in the League’s main mission: encouraging every citizen to actively participate in our vibrant democracy. Cyndy has truly helped the League renew, develop, and revitalize as it moves to a celebration of its 95th Anniversary in October.
