Dr. McKersie was voted to be the next Superintendent of Weston Public Schools.

The Weston, CT Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint William S. McKersie Superintendent of the Weston Public Schools at a meeting last night. Dr. McKersie will transition to Weston this summer, with a specific start date yet to be determined.

On Tuesday, April 26 the Weston Board announced Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. McKersie as the finalist for the position, “subject to a satisfactory site visit, background check, and formal appointment.”

“I want to express my gratitude to Dr. McKersie for bringing stability to Greenwich Public Schools with a passion and commitment for advancing our educational standards and a strategic plan that assures improvement on all levels. During his four years as school Superintendent, Bill has been an effective partner working with the town in areas of mutual concern. I wish Bill continued success as the Weston Schools Superintendent. We congratulate Dr. McKersie on his appointment as Superintendent in Weston,” said Greenwich Board of Education Chair, Laura Erickson.

“The Greenwich Board has already begun to discuss the search process for both an interim and a permanent superintendent. We are reviewing resources provided by the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents (CAPSS) as well as information received from the equivalent organization in Westchester County, NY. We expect to develop a short list of interim candidates as soon as possible. Our goal is to have an interim superintendent in place before Dr. McKersie leaves in mid July.”

Erickson announced on Friday, April 22 that Dr. McKersie would not be seeking renewal of his contract ending June 2017, noting that, “by several measures, the district is in a much better place than when the Superintendent arrived four years ago and has benefited from a period of stable leadership.”

Erickson continues, “The Board is also reviewing a draft Request for Proposal (RFP) for a firm to help us with the permanent superintendent search. We would like to select the firm before the start of the next school year. The process will provide for extensive community input.”
