Come enjoy the beauty of sweeps of tulips in bloom at Greenwich’s newest small botanical ‘Pocket’ Park and official Monarch WayStation at Greenwich Close Apartments for the 2nd annual Tulip Party to be held Thursday, April 28 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The apartments are located at 20 Brookside Drive, just opposite Town Hall on Field Point Road. Coffee and pastries will be served.

The event is hosted by Greenwich Close Apartments, part of the Greenwich Housing Authority, and by Maher & Greenwald Fine Gardens. Carrie Greenwald, APLD, created the park and gardens in 2014-2015. Last fall, approximately 1,100 parrot tulips and various daffodils were planted, creating a stunning display.

The Pocket Park Garden is a spectacle this spring and also serves as an important site for butterflies in the summer and fall. It was recently awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by Monarch Watch, which contributes to monarch conservation and helps to assure the continuation of the monarch migration in North America. The Greenwich Close Pocket Park is designated as an official Monarch Waystation.

Carrie Greenwald stated, “This is a beautiful, ecological series of gardens enjoyed by the Greenwich Close residents as well as pedestrians passing through the neighborhood. Abundant blooms of all sorts will continue for months to come. It’s worth returning to see a ‘flowery river’ of irises, peonies, and an array of flowers that nurture and attract butterflies, birds and bees.” The space includes a sunflower and ‘dinnerplate hibiscus’ garden, shade gardens,  a butterfly garden and the Pocket Park’s jewel of a rock garden.  Most plants have labels to identify them.

Greenwald continued, “I’m so honored to have had the opportunity to transform for the Housing Authority what was an underutilized space into a garden that’s a floral tapestry to be appreciated by people, birds and butterflies.”
