Sacred Heart Greenwich Tracksters Fare Well at Masters

The Sacred Heart Greenwich track and field team had some solid performances during its meet Saturday at Masters School.

The Tigers finished second overall with 62 points, beating host school Masters by 10 points. Overall it was Rye Country Day School that came away with the gold, posting a team score of 94 points.

Horace Mann was fourth with 51 points and rounding out the day was Maria Regina with 41 points.

Sacred Heart was paced by Ciara Henry in the 800-meter run, as she grabbed the top finish with a time of 2:44.3. Not to be outdone was teammate Olivia Batel, who took second in the event with a time of 2:45.2.

Mackenzie Jordan also had a meet to remember, taking the top spot in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:19.3.

 When it came to hurdles, Sacred Heart finished with the silver and bronze in the 300-meter hurdles.  Maddie Henrie finished second on the day, posting a time of 55.6 seconds, while teammate Jenna Whelan took home third overall with a time of 56.2.

The Tigers had back-to-back finishes in the 400-meter run, as Alana Maguire netted a third place time of 1:07.8 and Olivia Monahan backed that up with a fourth place time of 1:07.9.

During the 1,500-meter run, Sacred Heart’s Mary Anne Gallagher ended the day fourth overall with a time of 5:50.1.

CSH also took home two top five finishes in relay events. The  4×400-meter relay team of Henrie, Maguire, Jordan and Monahan paced the squad with a second place time of 4:40.5, while the 4×100-meter foursome of Whelan, Mary Livingston, Julia Spiegel and Kate Gerstner grabbed fourth and a time of 57.3.

The theme of third, fourth and fifth was in full effect during the field events, as the Tigers grabbed those spots in both the shot put and discus events.

In shot put, Laura Holland grabbed the bronze with a distance of 26-09, while teammate Elle McKenney took fourth and a distance of 23-11. Not to be outdone was Henry, who was fifth on the day with a distance of 23-10.

The same trio were back at it at discus, as Holland took home third and a distance of 71-02, while McKenney wasn’t far behind in fourth with a distance of 69-06. Henry grabbed fifth on the day and a distance of 61-10, while Jordan took home sixth and a distance of 51-08.
