Yachting on Long Island Sound Lecture

In conjunction with its spring/summer exhibition “Close to the Wind: Our Maritime History,” the Greenwich Historical Society will present a lecture by mariner, author and historian John Rousmaniere, on Tuesday, April 19. Rousmaniere will talk about Greenwich’s links to the history of American yachting on Long Island Sound and beyond.

Rousmaniere has authored more than 30 books on yacht design, marine photography, classic boats, seamanship and boat safety and is the author of The Annapolis Book of Seamanship, Fastnet and Force 10. He has penned histories of the Bermuda Race and the America’s Cup Race and closer to home, the history of Indian Harbor Yacht Club. He ran media operations for the Newport-Bermuda Races from 2010 to 2016. He is a graduate of Columbia University and a member of the Cruising Club of America and the New York City Yacht Club. 

Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; lecture begins at 7 p.m. with a Q&A to follow.

Greenwich Historical Society, Vanderbilt Education Center, is located at 39 Strickland Road, Cos Cob. Cost for members is $10 and $15 for nonmembers.
