CSH Students Win Scholastic Writing Awards

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the nation’s longest running and most prestigious recognition initiative for creative teens, has honored 24 Middle and Upper School writers at Sacred Heart Greenwich with gold, silver and honorable mention awards. Winners were honored March 6 at a regional awards ceremony at Manhattanville College.

The four middle school students who won Gold Key awards will have their pieces automatically entered in the national contest, and that awards ceremony will be on June 2 in New York City. They are: Charlotte Brauer, Sophia Georgas, Chiara Schmidt, all of Greenwich, and Catherine O’Shea of Rye, N.Y.

“These four students and all of our Middle School Scholastic Writing Award recipients achieved this recognition through hard work and perseverance across six weeks of intense workshop classes,” said Middle School English teacher Marc Maier.

Six Middle School students also won Silver Medals: Rachael Ali (two Silver Medals), Sofia Fonti, Sydney Kim, Fiona Lewis, Carolina Oxenstierna (two Silver Medals), Ursula Wise.  

Nine Middle School students received Honorable Mention awards: Sasha Childs, Sofia Fonti, Piper Gilbert, Francisca Iraola, Mary Clare Marshall, Shay Newman, (two Honorable Mentions), Claudia Schmidt, Ursula Wise, Elizabeth Yeager.  

Upper School Scholastic awards in poetry, journalism, personal essays and short stories: Fiona Cahill, Honorable Mention, poetry; Kate Gerstner, Honorable Mention, poetry; Morgan Johnson, Silver Medal and Honorable Mention for journalism; Sinéad McGovern, Honorable Mention, personal essay; Aggie Ryan, Silver Medal, short story; Christina Weiler, Honorable Mentions for poetry and short story.
