On March 3, the Greenwich Leadership Council for Save the Children held a global child protection update by Mattito Watson, a senior director. Mattito previously worked in Africa for more than 15 years and now resides in Washington, D.C. and manages Save the Children’s child protection and OVC (orphan and vulnerable children) programs.
According to Mattito, “For the past 15 years, I have personally witnessed the tragic violence, abuse, exploitation and neglect of millions of children around the world. From boots on the ground in the civil war in Darfur, to emerging issues with Syrian migration, Save the Children will be there to resolve ongoing struggles that children face every day in a world of violence, poverty, hunger, illiteracy and disease.”
Sue Mirza, President of the Save the Children Greenwich Council said “For over 10 years the Greenwich Leadership Council has educated and informed Greenwich residents about Save the Children’s global efforts to provide lasting change for children and to protect them from harm. Our Greenwich membership has dedicated their time to this cause through community outreach such founding a Teen Council and holding quarterly informative membership presentations. We also have raised well over $1 million dollars for Save’s work through large scale benefits, fashion shows, author receptions and sponsoring an annual spring family mini-marathon.”
