Another season of Resident and Corporate league basketball is in the books, and the Greenwich Parks and Recreation department handed out the hardware following Monday’s championship games at the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center.

In the resident league, the dynasty of Interactive Brokers continued with their ninth championship in the last 13 years, defeating Sam’s Bar and Grill 73-47 to secure the title.

The brokerage firm finished with an 8-2 regular season record and cruised to victories over S&S and Row America in the playoffs to compete for another championship.

“Most of us are over 40,” said Karl Patterson. “We’ve got a little bit of youth on the team, but every year we’re playing smarter. This might have been the most competitive year. As it goes on, I’m not sure if it’s becoming a more competitive league or we’re just getting a little bit slower.”

Patterson says his team isn’t as fast as they used to be in past years, but by moving the ball around, playing smarter defense and diversifying their assets, he says the team has found continued success over the years.

“We work together,” said Patterson of his teammates. “We’re a corporate team in a resident league. We’re all in the same office and we see each other all day. Most of us have stayed with the company for over 16 or 17 years. The chemistry is both on and off the court, it just translates to hoops sometimes.”

Tim Mahon channeled his inner Stephen Curry as he scored 21 points – all three pointers – in the second half and Kevin Keller had 18 points.

In the corporate league, the Greenwich-based General Atlantic Corporation defeated J. Pocker behind a comeback of epic proportions in a 78-75 overtime thriller.

Trailing by as much as 15 points late in the second half, Jordan Schur led his team to the come-from-behind victory and the league title with an impressive 32-point performance, 21 of them coming in the second half and overtime.

“It took all six guys,” said Schur. “It was unbelievable for our team to have that kind of energy. It took a lot of three-point shooting and good defense.”

Ryan Neubauer found his shot in the second half with 15 points – all long-range and timely shots.

General Atlantic finished their 10-game regular season with a 9-1 record, with their only loss coming in a forfeit to Richman Capital.
