Obituary: Nancy Minyo

Nancy Minyo passed away on March 21 at her home in Cos Cob at the age of 85. 

Born March 15, 1931 to Anthony and Rosaria DeBartolo, she was a lifelong resident of Greenwich.  Nancy married Harold Minyo on May 10, 1952.  They were married for over 41 years until Harold’s death on October 13, 1993.

As a young woman, Nancy worked as a hairdresser. After raising a family, she worked at New England Oil for many years. Active in her church, Nancy also enjoyed a variety of crafts, cooking, and baking. Over the years, she delighted in a number of activities with a wonderful and devoted, close-knit group of friends, which included travel, dinners, theater, and the opera. She was a loving individual who always put others before herself.  Nancy adored her family and was actively involved in her grandchildren’s interests and activities.

She is survived by her three children, Marcia M. Gilliam of Church Hill, Md., Joanne Minyo of Chicago, and Michael Minyo of Cos Cob; six grandchildren, Bethany Piccone, Allison, Christina, and Michael Minyo, Natasha and Rebekah Lubar; one great-grandchild, Max Piccone; her sister, Mary Zampino; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will take place at St. Agnes Church, 247 Stanwich Rd., Greenwich, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 26. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established:  Nancy Minyo Memorial, African Mission Relief Fund, Fr. Philip Pitya, U.S. Mission Representative, c/o Chesapeake Bank & Trust, 245 High St, Chestertown, MD, 21620.
