Obituary: Julia Myder Kordas

Julia Myder Kordas passed away on March 19 at home, surrounded by her children. She was 98 years old.

Julia was born on Sept. 16, 1917 to Delia Wach and Louis Myder, who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her loving husband of 69 years, Frank A. Kordas; three sisters, Frances Myder, Frances M., and Edna Lally; and one brother, Leon Myder.

Julia had five children: Richard (Patricia) Kordas of Greenwich, Robert (Joyce) Kordas of Darien, Karol Coppola of Wellington, Fla., Frank Kordas, Jr., of Cos Cob, and David (Sherry) Kordas of Coral Springs, Fla.

She had 12 grandchildren: Richard Jr. (Monica) Kordas, Jeffrey (Sheila) Kordas, Jennifer (Shawn) Gorman, Robert A. (Susan) Kordas, Ted Coppola, Jessica (Nicholas) Zabrecky, Chelsea Kordas, Kathryn (Michael) Di Miglio, David Jr. (Kristen) Kordas, Matthew, Danny, and Jake Kordas.

Julia also had 13 great grandchildren: Makayla, Colby, Jake, Abigail, Julia, Grace, Chloe, Amilia, Ethan, Kody, Molly Delia, Erin, Michael, and Sam.

Julia was a beautiful seamstress. Her favorite creations were her signature smocked dresses that she made for her daughter, nieces and granddaughter. Besides being a wonderful homemaker, she was a second mother to many children who lived on and around Arch Street. She made many sandwiches and pitchers of ice tea. There was always a batch of brownies, and if you were really lucky, a slice of her apple pie.

For many years, she was a parishioner of St. Mary Church in Greenwich before moving to Cos Cob and becoming a member of St. Catherine of Sienna Church.

Visitation was held on Monday, March 21, at Castiglione Funeral Home in Greenwich. A Mass was held on Tuesday at St. Catherine Church in Riverside. Burial followed at St. Mary Cemetery.
