A local Easter tradition continues for the ninth consecutive year as SPLURGE partners with Kids in Crisis and the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County to collect Easter baskets for children in need. SPLURGE Unique Gifts, Home Décor and Jewelry, at 39 Lewis Street, will provide a location for members of the community to donate filled Easter baskets from through Wednesday, March 23. SPLURGE owner, Sonia Sotire Malloy shared, “Over the past eight years, thanks to our generous clients and the local Girl Scouts, we have donated over 700 filled Easter Baskets to Kids in Crisis and the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County. This year we have an aggressive goal of 100 filled baskets, which we believe is achievable with the support of our amazing community. These donated Easter baskets make a visit from the Easter Bunny a truly special occasion for many children in need.”

Shari Shapiro, Executive Director at Kids in Crisis, says, “Kids in Crisis is incredibly grateful for the Easter basket collection conducted by Sonia and SPLURGE. It is so important for our children to feel a sense of normalcy – something that is often difficult during the holidays. Through Sonia’s efforts, our children can experience fun and special occasions. We thank Sonia and SPLURGE for making a difference in the lives of our young people.”

Kate Lombardo, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County added, “The Easter baskets bring joy and excitement to the lives of the children living in this area’s shelters. They subsist without many of the things we take for granted. The Easter baskets are a bright ray of sunshine into these children’s lives.”

Cellophane wrapped Easter baskets can be filled with items for children aged two to 17 and can include toys, journals, games, personal care items, gift cards, packaged healthy snacks and traditional Easter candy. To thank individuals for their generosity, anyone who donates an Easter basket will receive 10% off of their entire purchase on the day of their donation. Please contact Sonia Sotire Malloy if your school or organization is interested in contributing to the SPLURGE Easter basket drive.

To add to the Easter fun, the Easter Bunny will make a special appearance at SPLURGE on Saturday, March 12 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Professional photographer Katie Settel will take photos of children, families and pets with the Easter Bunny. Everyone will receive a free 4 x 6 portrait and all shoppers will enjoy 20% off photo frames purchased during the event.
