The Greenwich High School gymnastics team will be busy next weekend, competing in the New England Gymnastics Championships.

They’re able to show the rest of New England their talents because of another stellar performance during the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference state open championships.

Big Red finished Saturday’s event, which took place at New Milford High School, second overall, netting a score of 140.400. Overall, Woodstock Academy claimed state open gold, scoring a top team score in all the events and finishing with 147.300 points.

Once again, Greenwich was led by Adnerys DeJesus, who finished second in the all-around with a score of 37.925. Only Woodstock Academy’s Paige Stuyniski was better, posting a score of 38.425.

On the vault, DeJesus took home the silver and a score of 9.575. She also placed second on the floor exercise, posting a score of 9.550. DeJesus took third in her other two events, netting a score of 9.450 on the uneven bars and 9.350 on beam.

Not to be outdone was teammates Jessica Freiheit (34.700) and Kelsey Fedorko (34.650). The duo finished 12th and 13th, respectively in all-around.

Fedorko took home fourth on the day on vault, grabbing a score of 9.150 and she tied three other girls on bars by posting a 13th place score of 8.400. Her score of 8.450 on beam was good enough for a three way tie for 17th and she ended the day 20th on floor with a score of 8.650.

Freiheit finished two spots down from Fedorko, tied for 22nd on the day with a score of 8.600. She fared better on the bars, grabbing 10th overall with a score of 8.800. On the beam, Freiheit took home 12th with a score of 8.700 and she rounded out the day tied for 22nd on floor with a score of 8.600.

Also having a standout day was Gianna Cardini, who finished in the top 20 all-around at 19th overall with 32.950.

On bars, Cardini grabbed 20th overall and a score of 8.000, while also tied for 27th on beam with a score of 7.750. On the floor exercise, Cardini ended the day tied for 26th with a score of 8.450.

In addition, Fiona and Aisling Brock also had great performances. Fiona Brock took home an all-around score of 30.825, scoring a 7.925 on vault and also taking a 8.100 on floor. She also grabbed a 7.100 on bars and a 7.700 on beam.

Aisling Brock competed on the beam and netted a score of 7.925.

Because of Big Red’s outing at the state open championship, they are competing as a team in New Englands, which will take place Saturday at Dracut High School in Mass.

DeJesus qualified for New Englands in each event and in all-around, while Fedorko qualified on vault.
