Junior League to Host Panel Discussion on Concussion

The Junior League of Greenwich will present “Concussions in Education: What You Need to Know” on Tuesday, March 8, at 7 p.m. in Greenwich Library’s Cole Auditorium. This program is designed for the entire community — free and open to the public — and is especially relevant for parents and educators to learn about brain injuries in our schools and colleges.

Alessandra Messineo Long, the president of the Junior League of Greenwich states, “Children and adolescents are among those at greatest risk for concussion. Proper recognition and response to concussion can prevent further injury and help with recovery. Educating our community through this seminar will help raise awareness and promote healthy living.”

The concussion talk will feature a multi-disciplinary group of brain injury experts curated by The Brain Trust. The panel will include medical experts from The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and the University of California at San Francisco, the CEO from Maguire Associates, Inc., education industry risk managers, and other industry professionals who will all come together to discuss student wellness amid the concussion.

The program will survey the “best practices” and institutional protocols designed to mitigate serious long-term consequences following a concussion and to return students to full activity as safely and rapidly as possible. Topics will range from “Return to Play” and early interventions, to “Return to Learn” and the importance of training institutional personnel in their vital role of supporting the returning student through temporary cognitive disabilities associated with recovery and return following a concussion.
