The Greenwich High School girls basketball team is more than ready to begin its run in the CIAC class LL postseason and will get it underway Saturday.

The Lady Cardinals, with a 15-3 regular season record, grabbed the No. 10 seed in the upcoming tournament and will host No. 23 seed Avon at 12 p.m. on Saturday. Avon comes into the game with a 10-10 regular season record.

If Greenwich advances, they will either host No. 26 seed Norwalk High School or travel upstate to battle seventh-seeded Southington on March 3 at 7.

Overall, it’s Mercy that grabbed the top seed in the class LL tournament, posting a regular season record of 19-1. One of Greenwich’s big rivals, Fairfield Warde High School (18-2) is the second seed and could possibly square off with Big Red in the quarterfinal round if both teams advance.

When it comes to FCIAC teams competing in the class LL tourney, Greenwich isn’t alone. In addition to Norwalk and Fairfield Warde high schools, Stamford is ranked fourth, Trumbull High is ninth, Ridgefield is seeded 13th, Fairfield Ludlowe is 15th, Wilton High School is seeded 21st and Darien High School is right behind Wilton at No. 22.

The CIAC class LL championship game is scheduled to be played at the Mohegan Sun Arena either March 19 or March 20.
