The Lisa Wexler Show may have found a new home this past summer at Greenwich’s WGCH 1490AM, but the award-winning radio host, lawyer and author hasn’t skipped a beat in her efforts to combine justice and journalism.

If youre thinking about it, Lisas talking about it.

Im about informing, not persuading, said Wexler, who now hosts her two-hour program on weekday afternoons on the air and online at WGCH.com. I try and lay it out and let people make up their own minds.

Covering everything from the New Hampshire primaries to the ethics of the DNA-editing tool CRISPR, Wexler credits her history as a lawyer and her passion for conversing with people for her success as an on-air radio personality in both Westchester and Fairfield counties.

I was a lawyer for many years and I was frustrated at the practice of law and it was making me unhappy. I wanted to infuse my life with new, interesting people and learn. I felt if I created a radio show, I had a great excuse for people to talk to me.

She went live on the air for the first time on Sept. 30, 2006, and still remembers how she booked her first guest, former Connecticut Gov. Jodi Rell

I ran into her at the Oyster Festival in Norwalk. I asked her if she would come on and be my first guest and she said yes and kept her promise. It was fantastic!

Nearly a decade later, the Gracie Award winner traveled to New Hampshire to get a first-hand look at both the politicians and media in the run-up to the presidential primary.

She attended speeches by John Kasich, Marco Rubio, and Bill Clinton in support of his wife, Hillary. And she says she wishes she put a microphone in the face of Donald Trump as a member of the media, instead of just shaking his hand.

Im not a bookie, I dont call the race, I dont make predictions and I dont take sides, said Wexler. Im in my element. I get to meet people and talk to people. Its as much fun observing the media do their job as it is watching the politicians do their thing.

My goal has always been to cover a wide variety of topics. I have always been interested in healthcare innovation, great authors, and the theatre.

Since her arrival at WGCH, Wexlers coverage of Westchester and Fairfield counties comes with an emphasis on Greenwich, and she makes an effort to dive into local issues. She was in attendance for the Board of Education meeting at which the board unanimously reinstated Greenwich High School Band Director John Yoon before a filled-to-capacity Julian Curtiss Gymnasium.

During the local political campaign season, she recalls her listeners keeping track of the minutes her guests spent on her show.

I loved it! I was counting the appearances the politicians made, Wexler said. But I wasnt counting the minutes! I loved that people were listening that closely. Im really trying to get to know Greenwich. I hope people in Greenwich get to know me.

Often accompanied by Sugar, her bichon dog, Wexler can be heard on weekdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on WGCH 1490AM and streaming online at WGCH.com.

Ive learned that this town loves and listens to its radio station. Ive learned that this is a very sophisticated community, and one that cares about the issues of not only Greenwich, but beyond the town as well. This is a very philanthropic community and a community that recognizes they are in a place of privilege and they have a responsibility to give back.
