Greenwich Point is the place to be on Sundays this winter. The Old Greenwich Yacht Club (OGYC) will once again open its doors to the public on six Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m., from Sunday, Feb. 21, through April 3, excluding March 27. The open house on Feb. 21 will feature a performance by the eclectic local band TheException.

Residents are invited to come see the new and improved clubhouse, enjoy some refreshments and warm-up by the fire. Open houses have traditionally been a way for residents with an interest in boating to learn about all the Club offers for sailing, racing, kayaking, fishing and more.

This year the club has added a sixth Ideal 18 to the Club’s sail fleet, making educational programs and competitive sailing events even more accessible to members. The club has also welcomed three new board members: Patrice Anibal, Vice Commodore; Lisa Tella, Waterfront Programs Director; and Michael Sullivan, Membership Director.

“The Old Greenwich Yacht Club has always been a community and education-focused town club with a strong volunteer spirit,” says Tom Drake, Club Commodore. “Thousands of Greenwich children and adults have learned to sail through our programs at Greenwich Community Sailing and our club-owned sail fleet is a cost effective way for families to get out on the water and develop their skills.”

The club sponsors several well-known races, such as the Payea Around the Island Distance Race, participates in Greenwich PHRF and one-design racing, and co-sponsors Wednesday night racing in conjunction with Indian Harbor Yacht Club. OGYC is also one of the 11 founding yacht clubs of Women on the Water of Long Island Sound and supports the Young Mariners of Greenwich program.
