Kids of all ages, families and Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich supporters will join together at the Clubhouse pool for fun and fundraising on behalf of the annual Swim-A-Thon on Feb. 20.

Future Olympians, water dwellers and wannabe mermaids who have collected pledges per lap, will make a splash with lap swimming from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. that Saturday.

All Greenwich residents are welcomed to support the kids participating in this year’s Swim-A-Thon. Special guest Lt. Rick Cochran of the Greenwich Police Department has challenged himself to swim for this worthy cause.

“I plan on swimming all four hours and my goal is to do 4 miles, that’s 64 laps each mile,” Cochran said. “I would like to raise $1000 for the kids.”

BGCG swimmers are accepting pledges from the community to help reach this year’s goal of $20,000.

Funds for the Swim-A-Thon will support the Club’s aquatic programs, ranging from staff to equipment and will allow the Club to provide quality programs for its members.

With a yearly membership of $50, members can join the swim team and participate in special clinics including swimming lessons, snorkeling, water polo, water safety instruction and more.

These funds are especially essential this year as the Club has experienced a setback when the pool heater caught fire and subsequently caused the pool’s closure to the community for two weeks.

Camryn Ferrara, the Club’s athletic coordinator and Brendan Garnett, BGCG’s education/technology coordinator have entered in a friendly competition to see who can complete laps the fastest.

To participate or sponsor a swimmer, Lt. Cochran, Camryn or Brendan, the community is asked to go online to Bgcg.org/2016swimathon/or call 203-869-3224.
