Trailing by double-digits to FAA rival Hopkins School in the first half, the Brunswick School basketball team’s second half comeback bid came up short, as the Bruins lost on the road to the Hilltoppers on Wednesday, 61-53.

With the loss, the Bruins fell to 6-11 overall and 5-5 in the FAA.

The game was evenly played in the opening minutes, but Hopkins started to pull away, eventually taking a 31-19 lead at the half.

The Hilltoppers held a comfortable lead into the second half before Brunswick made a short run midway through the final stanza. The Bruins trimmed the lead to single-digits before Hopkins responded with their own run to stifle any late-game Brunswick comeback.

One game removed from making 13 three-pointers, Brunswick connected on just 3-for-25 shots from behind the arc, and shot .321 overall from the field.

The Bruins were sharp from the free throw line, nailing 14 of its 17 attempts from the charity stripe, while Hopkins was ice-cold from the line, going just 5-for-21 from the line.

Senior Nacho Nwana led the Bruins with 21 points on 8-from-16 shooting from the field, as he also led Brunswick with eight rebounds. Junior Will Marvin chipped in eight points, while classmate Charlie Sealey and sophomore Muna Nwana each scored seven points.

Looking ahead, Brunswick has a stretch of five-straight home games at Dann Gym, including an FAA tilt against Hamden Hall on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
