In the closest meet of the year, the Greenwich High School boys swimming and diving team pulled away late to upend New Canaan High School 11-84 Wednesday afternoon.

After five events, Big Red found itself tied with the Rams 39-39, however it was a dominating performance in the 100-yard butterfly that helps the Cards finally get the lead. In that event, Jack Montesi was golden with a time of 55.61 seconds. Nick Handali took third place and John Dustin grabbed fifth to help extend the lead.

Greenwich took the lead for good when they picked up top three finishers in both the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke. In the freestyle event, Patrick Clisham took the top spot with a time of 50.82, while Ray Warner and Nick Hyden took second and third respectively.

Alex Jahan controlled the breaststroke with a time of 1:02.02, while Aedan Lewis took the silver and Josh King grabbed the bronze.

In the first half of the meet, Big Red only had a handful of winners. Lewis, Jahan, Montesi and Conrad Moss were tops in the 200-yard medley relay (1:42.74) and Handali was golden in the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.10).

Montesi added a win in the 100-yard backstroke, and the Cardinal quartet of Hyden, Lewis, Jahan & Montesi closed out the meet with a 3:22.89 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
