Greenwich Decorative Arts Society Holds Lecture

On Monday, Feb. 1, the Greenwich Decorative Arts Society (formerly The Greenwich Antiques Society) presents “The Villas of Andrea Palladio,” a lecture Witold Rybczynski, Martin and Margy Meyerson Professor Emeritus of Urbanism, University of Pennsylvania.

With his simple, gracious, perfectly proportioned villas, Andrea Palladio elevated the architecture of the private house into an art form during the late sixteenth century. In his illustrated talk, Witold Rybczynski takes us on a tour of ten of the master’s villas in the Veneto.

Witold Rybczynski is the author of The Perfect House: A Journey with the Renaissance Master Andrea Palladio, and the prize-winning A Clearing in the Distance: Frederick Law Olmsted and America in the Nineteenth Century. He is the winner of the 2014 National Design Award for Design Mind.

Refreshments will follow the lecture, which starts at 1:15 p.m. at the Bruce Museum, 1 Museum Drive. Admission for non-members of the Greenwich Decorative Arts Society is $25. Space is limited.
