Greenwich High Swim Team Blitzes Hatters, 111-57

The Greenwich High School boys swimming and diving team tallied another victory Wednesday night at the GHS pool, upending Danbury High School 111-57.

Sophomore Ryan Lynch led the largely underclass group of Cardinal swimmers, with individual wins in the 200-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle. Competing in the individual medley, Lynch took home a tome of 2:10.98, while he struck gold in the longest event of the day, the 500-free, with a time of 5:21.59.

Lynch also came up with a top time as part of the 200-yard medley, swimming the breaststroke leg of the event. Lynch, along with Matt Li, John Dustin and Matt Krantz, took home a time of 1:48.20.

Lynch rounded out his day with a top time and swimming the anchor leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay, joining Jack Bound, Noah Sorensen, Parker Scott and netting a time of 3:41.90.

In addition to Lynch, other GHS athletes had a standout day. In the 200-yard freestyle, Kirk Schultz finished golden with a time of 2:00.95. During the quickest event of the day, the 50-yard freestyle, Russell Winget took home a first place time of 24.50 seconds.

Joining Winget and Schultz was Dustin and Tyler Jester. Dustin was first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.25, while Jester touched the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.64.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Big Red’s Li nearly cracked the one-minute mark, taking first with a time of 1:00.06. Not to be outdone was Segundo Rienhardt in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing first overall with a time of 1:09.09.

In the Cardinal’s other relay, the 200-yard freestyle, the foursome of Dustin, Tegan D’Agostino and Matt Krantz were tops on the day, grabbing a time of 1:42.88.

On the diving board, Greenwich was paced by Sergei Shaw, as he netted 256.65 points, which was good enough for gold.

With the victory, Big Red upped its overall record to 3-0, while Danbury fell to 0-3. Greenwich squares off against Staples in Westport tomorrow.
