Twenty members of the Greenwich Fire Fighters Local 1042, Group 3, delivered holiday cheer along with $700 worth of toys to the Pediatric Specialty Center at Greenwich Hospital on Wednesday.

“We never want to see kids in the hospital, especially during the holidays,” said Daniel Natale, fire fighter. “But if they are here, they’ll have plenty of activity books, games and toys to keep them occupied.” Natale began the gift-giving tradition following the birth of his daughter on Christmas eve at Greenwich Hospital a dozen years ago.

Most of the toys were purchased at North Street Pharmacy in Greenwich. Sonali Costa, pharmacist and owner, was so moved by the effort that the store donated about $200 worth of toys to the hospital, said Natale. Some of the firefighter’s children donated gifts, too.

“This is wonderful,” said Christine Beechner, vice president for Patient Experience at Greenwich Hospital, of the stack of toys in the pediatric nursing station. “We’re extremely grateful to the Greenwich Fire Department for these gifts and their service to the community. These gifts will bring smiles to the faces of our youngest patients now and well into next year!”
