Safe Rides, a First Selectman’s Youth Commission sponsored by TAG and Greenwich United Way, is in need of adult volunteers.

Volunteers are needed on both Fridays and Saturdays. There are two part-time shifts, the first from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. and another one from 11:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. The full shift is from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

To volunteer, contact Jim Boutelle at admin@ridetag.org, or call 203-637-4345.

Since its creation in 1982, the aim of Safe Rides has been to reduce the dangers of teen drinking and driving. Teens are allowed to use the service to call for a ride in the event that they feel unsafe driving themselves or others home. Teens do not have to be intoxicated to use the service and may request a ride from any location within the Greenwich area. The service has been used to pick up teens from parties, from babysitting, and late at night from work. The cars are driven by trained and paid TAG drivers, and the dispatching is supervised by trained TAG personnel.
