The Brunswick School athletic department was busy Wednesday afternoon, as several teams were in action, both at the King Street campus and on the road.

Swim Team Falls to Loomis Chaffee, Win Streak Snapped

On Wednesday, the Brunswick School swim team dropped a very competitive road match to Loomis Chaffee 96-84, snapping a four-meet winning streak. Swimming against a perennial power, the Bruins won a number of races.

Individually, Will Powers won the 200-yard freestyle, while Christian Farricker captured gold in the 100-yard butterfly. Cole Pierce won the 100-yard backstroke.

The team of Keegan Drew, Farricker, James Simone and Powers won the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Brunswick will have some time off before its next meet, as the Bruins face Hackley in Mehra Natatorium on Jan. 6 at 3:30 p.m.

Basketball Team Holds Off King For Third Win In A Row

After opening up a commanding 20-3 lead at King, the Brunswick basketball team held on for a 59-57 win on Wednesday. The Bruins (3-2) now have won three straight games, as all five contest this season have been on the road.

Senior Nacho Nwana, along with junior Will Marvin, spearheaded the early play against King. Despite building the 17-point cushion, Brunswick witnessed the hosts fight their way back to make it a 31-29 deficit at the half.

A double-digit for the Bruins midway through the second half vanished as well, but Brunswick held on for a gritty 59-57 road win.

Nwana led the Bruins with 19 points, while Marvin netted 18. The duo connected on 7-for-15 three-pointers, as Marvin went 4-for-6 from downtown.

Sophomore Raphael Rubon chipped in 10 points for Brunswick, sinking each of his five shots from the floor. Cam Kelly accounted for nine of the Bruins’ 13 assists, as the junior also swiped five steals, tying him with Nacho Nwana for team-best accolades.

Brunswick continues its nine-game road journey at Tabor Academy on Friday, Dec. 18, playing a rare double-header at the Seacoast Classic. Brunswick’s first game is against the host school at 11:30 a.m., before the nightcap against Taft at 3:45 p.m.

Wrestling Team Wins Big at Home Meet Against Choate

The Brunswick School wrestling on its home mats inside the Ostrye Wrestling Gym, the Bruins topped Choate 65-12 on Wednesday, improving to 6-0 on the season.

Brunswick takes an extended break before a pair of anticipated matches against rivals Trinity Pawling and Salisbury on the Salisbury campus on Jan. 9.

The opening match at the 170-pound weight class saw Brunswick’s Lucas Bell rally from a 5-1 deficit with a third period rally. The senior won the match in the final seconds with a takedown, followed by a nearfall gave him the improbable 6-5 decision.

After a Choate winning pin at 182, senior Alex Russell earned a quick pin at 195, giving the hosts a 9-6 lead after three matches.

Brunswick won three of the next four matches by forfeit, as Choate registered their final points during that span with a pin.

Leading 27-12 after seven matches, the Bruins closed out the contest winning the final seven match-ups, including the last four by pin.

Squash Earns Another Sweep, Bests Choate 7-0

For the second time this season, Brunswick swept an opponent 7-0, while winning all 21 games on the day. With the road victory against Choate, the Bruins improve to 4-0. Brunswick takes an extended break, returning to the courts on Jan. 6, with a road contest at Taft at 4 p.m.
