Obituary: Albert Borchetta

Albert D. Borchetta, Sr., of Greenwich, passed away on Dec. 5. He was 90 years old.

Albert was born in Greenwich to Pietro and Rose (Infante) Borchetta on Nov. 14, 1925. He graduated Greenwich High School and went on to Wright Tech, in Stamford.  He served in the Army during WWII and then worked as a carpenter for the next 60 years.

He was a player, coach and umpire in Greenwich for over 65 years. He was known for his exceptional graciousness to all and, as an umpire, for his consistent strike zone, appreciated by pitchers and hitters alike. He was president of the Greenwich Umpire’s Association for many years.

Albert leaves his wife of 66 years, Theresa (Gasparino) Borchetta; sons Albert D. Borchetta Jr. (wife Jill) and Dominic Borchetta (wife Nancy); grandchildren Reid Ann, Aaron, Theresa and Matthew; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Clara R. Borchetta.

The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the Greenwich Hospital Palliative Care Center for their support in his last days.

Albert’s friends gathered to honor his life on Tuesday Dec. 8 at the Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home on Hamilton Avenue; a prayer service was held there the next morning, followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery on North Street.
