Letter: Thank You from Greenwich Alliance for Education

lettertotheeditor

To the Editor:

It was a beautiful warm day, on Saturday, November 28th which brought out over 1100 enthusiastic runners and walkers to work off that extra slice (or two) of apple pie at the 5th Annual Greenwich Alliance for Education (“Alliance”) Turkey Trot 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk.

Hospital for Special Surgery sponsored the 5K and Cadillac of Greenwich sponsored the 1 Mile AND provided the lead cars for both races. Racers were warmed up and ready to compete due to the efforts of Bill Bogardus, Director of Greenwich Track Club. The Greenwich Police Department, GEMS, and 70 volunteers manned the Bruce Park course to keep runners safe. Included amongst the youth volunteers were students from AVID, an Alliance funded college readiness system at Greenwich High School, Central and Western Middle Schools. Thanks to donations from our generous sponsors, post-race music and snacks were enjoyed by all at the Arch Street Teen Center. In an effort to encourage competitors of all ages, the Alliance tracks participants from all local public schools and would like to give special recognition to Julian Curtiss Elementary School for having the greatest percentage of participants. This is their third year winning the school’s competition.

Our sincere thanks go to all of our sponsors:

Other Race Day Contributors: Coca Cola, Garden Catering, Greenwich Track Club, Little Pub, Gro Pro Landscaping, Kings Food Markets, Sketchers, Upper Crust Bagel Company, Whole Foods Markets (Greenwich).

None of this would have been possible without the Race Co-Directors Emmy Stocker and Jane Hentemann, Chair of the Greenwich Alliance; and of course the dedicated members of the Alliance’s Turkey Trot planning committee.

Our biggest thanks to all of you in the community who came out to race, walk, cheer, donate and volunteer. The Alliance is built upon the belief that educating kids is a shared community responsibility. The Turkey Trot is a perfect example of our community coming together to make a difference for our kids.

Look for yourself and your neighbors in the photos on the Greenwich Alliance for Education website. 5K race results are posted on our website, www.greenwichalliance.org. Congratulations to all who participated.

If you couldn’t join the fun this year, we look forward to seeing you next year!
