Members of the Board of Directors of the Metro New York North Chapter of the Red Cross are working hard to fill these bags with items we might take for granted everyday.

“These bags are given out to our most seriously wounded soldiers when they are returning from Europe. They come in to Walter Reed and spend many, many months there. But, one of the first things they get are one of these bags,” said CEO Mary Young.

These mede-vac bags include essential items like shampoo, toothpaste, a toothbrush, a comb, and razors.

“The are coming in with really nothing that is theirs. They are coming from he hospitals in Europe, so this is their first thing that says welcome back and here’s a bunch of comfort items,” said Young.

The items are all donated by the Board of Directors to help our soldiers when they are returning from war. CEO of the Metro new York North Chapter Mary Young says the Red Cross’ service to the armed forces is what the organization was founded on back during the Civil War.

“This is just another proud moment for us to be able to help our men and women that we are so proud of,” said Young.

Young says the Red Cross supplies about one third of Walter Reed’s mede-vac bags for the year and they will arrive in D.C. next week.
